Santa Fe Memories

About the Author
Richard Mahler is a long-time Santa Fe resident who has reported on the city's people, places, arts, and culture for New Mexico Magazine, the Santa Fean, the New Mexican, the Santa Fe Reporter, National Public Radio, and many other outlets. His popular column about northern New Mexico, "Un Poco de Todo" appears biweekly in the Alburquerque Journal, and his restaurant reviews are found in Crosswinds Weekly, where his "Letter from Santa Fe" also runs regularly.

About the Artist
Betty Carlson first came to the Santa Fe area in 1958, and she was immediately captivated by the contrast with the Midwest she had left behind. Betty's love for this part of the country is expressed through her colorful contemporary renderings of the people, architecture, and landscapes of the Southwest. She works in oil, acrylic, and watercolor to capture the light and shadow designs and rainbow colors created by New Mexico's unique atmosphere.

About Santa Fe
Santa Fe is called The City Different for a host of reasons - its distinctive adobe architecture, its colorful and spirited history as a Spanish colonial capital, its enthusiastic celebration of the arts, its magnificent high desert setting at the foot of the Rocky Mountains.

About the Book
Santa Fe Memories captures all of this and more, through rich paintings of the region's most familiar landmarks as well as fascinating stories about the city's ancient origins and its vibrant contemporary lifestyle. And some of Santa Fe's top restaurants have shared classic dishes that reveal the taste of Santa Fe. Return to a place that is indeed like no other, whose buildings seem to grow out of the earth, whose sun-filled sky appears endless, and whose friendly residents reflect an intriguing mix of Native American, Hispanic, and European traditions.
